On Wednesday, June 23, 2021, the Bronx Museum of the Arts celebrated its 50th anniversary with its first in-person reception in over a year.
The night included a performance titled “The Black Male Body” by Wardell Milan and Zachary Tye Richardson (pictured above), which pulled from themes present within Milan’s practice featured in Wardell Milan. Amerika. God Bless You If It’s Good To You. The performance is part of a series entitled 5 Indices On A Tortured Body, split into five indices representing five tortured bodies: The Black Male Body, The Trans Body, The Female Body, The Quarantine Body, and The Migrant Body.
“As we take off into our next 50 years, we will reaffirm our mission as an admission-free, liberated space for communities to come to enjoy our exhibitions, public and educational programs while having important conversations. We continue to be a leader in supporting and advancing art, social justice and equal opportunity,” said Executive Director, Klaudio Rodriguez.
