Mind-Builders Creative Arts Center will kick off its new season with their Sixth Annual Open House Street Fair on Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m.
At the Open House you will be able to sample free classes in dance, martial arts, keyboard, violin, praise dance and African drum, learn about free classes and scholarship opportunities, tour Mind-Builders state-of-the-art renovated facility and its extensive Art Collection.
The first 100 visitors will receive a FREE hot dog & drink. Winners of the Youth Talent Contest will receive cash prizes as well as scholarship opportunities to attend Mind-Builders classes.
Many VIPs have been invited to the event, including NYS Assemblyman & Speaker of the House Carl E. Heastie, NYS Congressman Eliot Engel, and NYC Council Members Andy King and Rafael Salamanca, among others.
Mind-Builders is a pioneer nonprofit founded by Madaha Kinsey-Lamb nearly 40 years ago to bring arts instruction to Northeast Bronx. Mind-Builders now serves over 600 students, of which 3 are adult, with more than 193 classes weekly. Instruction is offered in music (drums, piano, keyboard, brass instruments, voice, etc.) and dance (ballet, Hip Hop, Afro-Beats, Modern, African, Zumba©, etc.).
Free programs for teens include the Positive Youth Troupe (PYT) theater company, the Community Folk Culture program, and the African Art Docent project. Classes start the week of October 01, 2019.
