Shane Fernandez, 27, Arrested For The Hit-And-Run Death Of A Pedestrian

On Saturday, October 23, 2021, at approximately 2325 hours, police responded to a call of a rescue on the Bruckner Expressway in the vicinity of Exit 53, within the confines of the 43rd Precinct in the Bronx.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 33-year-old male in the roadway with severe body trauma.

EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway Unit’s Collision Investigation Squad determined the victim was walking in the westbound lane on the Bruckner Expressway crossing from north to south, when he was struck by a dark-colored four-door sedan.

The vehicle did not remain on scene.

The unoccupied vehicle was located by police near Watson Avenue and Colgate Street. The operator of the vehicle, a 27-year-old male, was taken into custody.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.  

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the above-mentioned individual has been arrested and charged.

  • aggravated unlicensed operator;
  • leaving the scene of an accident – death;
  • motor vehicle license violation: no license.

The investigation remains ongoing.
