The New York Liberty (2-5) are currently on a three-game losing streak after getting defeated by the San Antonio Stars (4-4), 75-87.

The Stars had a total of 5 players in double figures. F Sophia Young-Malcolm lead the team with 18 points and 4 rebounds.

“I thought we came out aggressive early and hit shots then changed our defense in the second half,” Young-Malcolm said. “It worked really well for us and we were happy to come out with a win.”

As Sophia mentioned, the Stars changed their play in the second half of the game. The Stars were leading 47-46 over the Liberty in the first half. After halftime, San Antonio scored 25-10 in the third quarter to essentially help the team score a total of 40-29 by the end of the game.

“I thought we moved the ball good,” San Antonio head coach, Dan Hughes told reporters after the game. “We weren’t stopping them, then we finally got some stops in the third quarter and that helped a ton. You know, you play out of your defense. We didn’t really have a chance at that [first quarter]. They [Liberty] were shooting 60% and we were having a hard time guarding them. Then we got a little run going.”

C Tina Charles lead the way for the New York Liberty with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals. However, Charles wasn’t pleased with the way the team played.

“I don’t know how to describe that [game],” Charles said. “That didn’t look like a WNBA game. That looked like high school basketball. Coach Laimbeer says we have to take care of the ball. We just have to take each possession more seriously.”

New York looked horrendous with the ball when they recorded a total of 21 turnovers. Head coach Bill Laimbeer  acknowledged that they turned the ball over and said that the team put their heads down when the Stars exploited those miscues.

“We turned the ball over and they ran it down our throats. They bagged a bunch of baskets, got a good lead and we put our heads down. These are very fine players, every team [in the WNBA] is very well coached and they’re going to take advantage of teams that make mistakes. We made a lot of mistakes in the third quarter. It is hard to stop a team with momentum and they had it.”

The Liberty will remain home on June 08, 2014, when they face the Washington Mystics at MSG. Tipoff is set for 03:00 p.m. ET.
