Resurgence of Magic is part of the Interactive Workshop Series, led by Blanka Amezkua.
This is an invitation to collectively create a variety of art objects and a text, taking into consideration materials that you have readily available in your home, while contemplating the effects of CoViD-19 in our lives. These virtual workshops will invite you to reflect on your current state of mind, how you think of others, what has given you strength during these times, about the things you are missing, and much more. It is my hope that through our collective creative undertaking we harness a little magic and we bring forth good energy that will extend beyond us and that will allow us to reflect on the current state of the world.
All work should fit inside a 9×12 manila envelope. Participants that complete at least 5 workshops will be invited to exhibit their work in a group show at AAA3A in the fall, TBA.

The understanding of magic in the western world varies tremendously from other worldviews. The supernatural abilities inherited and understood in other parts of the world do not exist here. For example, the use of a lucky item or ritual, in some cultures, is assumed to increase the probability that one will perform at a level so that one can achieve a desired goal or outcome. Not necessarily the case here, we know that in order to achieve certain outcomes, there is a system in place and a science, which more or less guides us. And that system is never paired with any remote notion of magic. Yet, all early societies started as believers in magic and some continue to allow it to exist and shape their understanding of life and the cause and consequence in it.
The first of eight sessions will take place on May 20, 2020, between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 01:30 p.m.
