On August 13, 2020, New York City Council Member Rafael Salamanca, Jr. was joined by New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, in partnership with the Met Council, Bronx Community Board 2, the New York City Police Department’s 41st Precinct and the U.S. Census Bureau at his district office, located at 1070 Southern Boulevard, to distribute over 600 food boxes, face masks and hand sanitizers to Bronxites in need.

“These Bronxites were extraordinarily happy and grateful to have a local council member ensuring that they have access in this really difficult time, so we are going to keep fighting for food access in New York City — especially here in the South Bronx,” said NYC Council Speaker Corey Johnson.

This distribution comes on the heels of the council member’s ongoing efforts to give back to the South Bronx as often as possible. Since March, twice a week, Council Member Rafael Salamanca, Jr. has teamed up with different businesses and organizations to give back to the community.

“We understand that there is a need and that with this pandemic, people have lost their jobs. Food insecurity is a real concern and if my office can help to alleviate that in any way, then I am going to make sure that we do so,” said Council Member Rafael Salamanca, Jr.

Council Member Rafael Salamanca, Jr., 17th District, Bronx County, represents Concourse Village, Crotona Park East, East Tremont, Hunts Point, Longwood, Melrose, Morrisania, Port Morris, West Farms, North Brother Island and South Brother Island.
