On Thursday, September 26, 2019, Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. will be hosting an “Opioid Crisis Public Education & Responder Training” event, aimed at informing residents on how to save lives affected by this ongoing crisis.
The event, taking place at the NYC Health + Hospital / Lincoln auditorium at 234 E. 149th Street, Bronx, is co-sponsored by NYC Health + Hospital/Lincoln Hospital, Hostos Community College, the Third Avenue BID and St. Ann’s Corner of Harm Reduction.
The “Opioid Crisis Public Education & Responder Training” event is geared toward teaching Bronx residents to recognize an opioid overdose and how to become a certified opioid overdose responder.
Public education sessions will be conducted by experts from NYC Health + Hospital / Lincoln Hospital’s Substance Use Services Department, with trainings conducted by the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene. Free rescue kits, including the overdose prevention drug Naloxone, will be distributed to those certified as opioid overdose responders.
“It is a very slippery slope sliding into addiction, especially during this opioid crisis that has plagued our nation, and information sessions such this are key in fighting this scourge facing our most vulnerable communities,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. “I want to thank all of our sponsors for coming together to share valuable information with Bronx residents. Knowledge is power and events such as this one equip us with the necessary know-how to not only step in and save a life, in case of an emergency, but address the overall problems that are affecting our Bronx residents.”
