Today, Police Commissioner Dermot Shea appointed Chauncey Parker as Deputy Commissioner for Community Partnerships. In this role, Parker will spearhead the Department’s new youth strategies efforts, identify opportunities for public and private partnerships and closely collaborate with other city agencies toward the mission of public safety. As Deputy Commissioner, Parker will oversee several divisions to strengthen alignment: Collaborative Policing, Community Affairs Bureau and a new Youth Strategies Unit.
“Chauncey has a proven track record of cultivating strong partnerships across law enforcement agencies, city agencies and with community leaders,” said Police Commissioner Dermot Shea. “He has done terrific work on youth prevention efforts, the overdose response strategy, prison reentry partnerships and understands that safety is a shared responsibility—he will play a critical role in bringing Neighborhood Policing to the next level.”
“Throughout my career, my goal has been to help build partnerships, in particular law enforcement and community partnerships, towards one ultimate truth: we are always stronger when we work together,” said Deputy Commissioner Chauncey Parker. “Taking on this role is a tremendous honor, and I’m committed to crime prevention strategies, particularly for our youth, and to help build even stronger partnerships with federal, state and local government agencies as well as our critical community partners.”
Chief of Collaborative Policing Lori Pollock will build on the critical work she did as Chief of Crime Control Strategies, where she helped develop plans of action to address upticks in youth crime. She will also work to strengthen the Department’s relationships with external partners and other city agencies.
Chief of Community Affairs Nilda Hofmann will continue her leadership to achieve and sustain gains against crime by strengthening community relationships and trust. In particular, by looking at the role of Youth Officers and School Safety Agents in schools and identifying new approaches to crime prevention efforts.
In addition, Assistant Commissioner Kevin O’Connor will lead a new Youth Strategies Unit. In this role, he will help streamline the department’s current efforts that support youth, assess areas for innovation and develop new approaches.
About Deputy Commissioner Chauncey Parker
Since 1995, Parker has served as the Director of the New York / New Jersey HIDTA, a federal-funded grant that invests in federal, state and local partnerships to build safe and healthy communities. During this time, Parker has also served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, Director of Criminal Justice for New York State, and Commissioner of the Division of Criminal Justice Services. Most recently, Parker served as Executive Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
