Leake and Watts is proud to announce that the Carol and Frank Biondi Education Center has been selected as a 2009-2010 National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) School of Excellence.

Each year, this distinction is bestowed upon a few select and qualified licensed private special education schools in the State of New York and is one of the highest levels of recognition that a private special education school can achieve. Schools are selected each year by demonstrating truly exceptional dedication, commitment and achievement in the field of special education.

The Carol and Frank Biondi Education Center is a private, 12-month program, providing specialized education services for children in grades K-12 with social and emotional difficulties and concurrent academic deficits. The students served by the Biondi Education Center have a broad range of psychological conditions that include debilitating anxiety, clinical depression, personality disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and serious thought disorders. Their academic deficits include basic learning skill deficits such as auditory processing disorders, dyscalculia (developmental arithmetic disorder), dysgraphia (developmental writing disorder), dyslexia (developmental reading disorder), dyspraxia (motor planning/sensory disorder), expressive language disorder, receptive language disorder and others, executive function deficits (the ability to organize and prioritize new information), and social skill deficits that prevent them from functioning well in a traditional classroom. The Middle and High Schools are located in Yonkers, New York, and students in Kindergarten through sixth grade attend the lower school located in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx.

Emphasis is on academic achievement, skills development and increasing student’s ability to remain on task, interact appropriately with peers and improve behavior so that they can return to their local public school. We also provide individual and group counseling, speech therapy, and a comprehensive Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program which promotes and reinforces positive behavior throughout the day.

Leake and Watts Services, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to providing foundations for individualized success for vulnerable children, adults and families dealing with emotional, psychiatric and cognitive challenges, as well as an array of traumas through a continuum of high quality campus- and community-based programs and services.  Comprehensive programs include family stabilization services, child care and Head Start, special education programs for children with emotional disorders and learning disabilities, family foster care, residential, day, and respite/recreation services to people with developmental disabilities, as well as residential treatment services and group homes for youth in New York City and Westchester County. Each year over 2800 children, young adults and families turn to Leake and Watts for help.
