The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) continued its distribution of more N95 masks and other personal protective equipment and supplies today to essential employees across New York City Transit, MTA Bus Company, Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad, Bridges and Tunnels and MTA PD. N95 masks have always been provided to MTA employees whose job duties require them. The MTA received a massive additional shipment of N95 masks over the weekend to be distributed to a wider group of employees across all agencies.

Since March 01, 2020, N95 masks and other PPE and supplies have been distributed as follows:

  • N95 masks: 300,000;
  • surgical masks: 160,000;
  • gloves: more than 5,000,000 (or 2,500,000 pairs);
  • hand sanitizer: 12,500 gallons and over 50,000 small (7 oz and 2 oz) bottles;
  • sanitizing cleaning wipes: 500,000;
  • cleaning solution: 53,000 gallons.

“We continue to do everything we can to keep our employees safe as we navigate the CoViD-19 pandemic,” said Patrick Warren, MTA Chief Safety Officer. “We are assessing public health guidance and working closely with our labor partners to make sure that our employees and customers are as safe and comfortable as possible during this rapidly evolving crisis.”

The MTA continues to encourage essential workers and others who have to travel on mass transit to use a face covering and continue to practice safe measures such as social distancing, only coughing into elbows and staying home if sick.
