Mount Saint Michael Academy has a night to remember with keynote address by NFL Hall of Famer Artie Donovan ’43 and NY songs by funeral director turned singer, Pat Farenga ‘48.

Mount St. Michael Academy held a special event in the Brother Albert Gustave FMS Library for alumni, from 1943 to 1963, to enjoy the company of old friends and classmates. Over sixty people were in attendance, which included alumni with guests, Mountaineers (present and past), Brothers, Coaches, Principals, and Presidents.

The night commenced with a Liturgy in the St. Michael Chapel. Following service were cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dinner, good conversation, and illustrious entertainment. Mount Legend Pat Farenga ’48 received a standing ovation with his personal rendition of “New York, New York” (Bronx, New York). Special guests included Angelo Orazio ’44 who reminisced about Mount’s “Mythical High School National Championship Game” versus St. George’s High School of Chicago in the Polo Grounds. Artie Donovan ’43 spoke about his glorious Mount and professional football career, which lead him to a trip to Canton Ohio’s Hall of Fame. Artie kept everyone laughing with stories about growing up in Grand Concourse to numerous antidotes of his life as an NFL star, when football had fewer rules.

Mount St. Michael’s president, Dr. Anthony Miserandino, spoke with the audience about the educational and athletic achievements today’s Mount students are granted. He further emphasized that today’s Mountaineers “stand on the broad shoulders” of our Alumni – Men who assisted in the creation of tradition in Catholic education, based on the foundation awarded by the Marist Brother founder, St. Marcellin Champagnat.
