On Friday night in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Marisa Thomas became the new Mrs. Global America US 2010. She was crowned by Laurel Shaler who was the 2009 Mrs. Global America US.

Marisa is a medical office systems specialist and plans on opening up a community center for the underprivileged as her platform is on Health Awareness. She represented the state of Florida as Mrs. Florida Global US 2009 and held the Mrs. Jacksonville United States 2009 title as well earlier this year.

Marisa, 33, is an advocate spokesmodel and volunteer for various community service projects and to date has made a precedented roster of 42 civic appearances throughout the state of Florida. As an adopted child herself, Mrs. Thomas’ past experience dealing with homelessness, obesity, and abuse is paving the way to voice serious issues such as adolescent mentoring and health awareness in today’s society. Her dynamic story of losing 73 pounds the natural way has empowered many to embrace weight loss by taking care of one’s body through a holistic approach. This was her first year competing in pageants.

The Global America US Pageant is a subsidiary of the Global America National Pageant – showcasing the strength and elegance of today’s woman. The Global America Pageant is a non-profit organization whose proceeds are donated to the CARE: For Your Health organization – which educates people on being knowledgeable about their bodies and taking control of their healthcare. Melissa Hooks is the Executive Director for the Global America pageant system.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Harlem, New York and was raised by her adoptive mother in the Bronx until age twelve.

Marisa’s dynamic personal story of beating the odds in regards to adoption, homelessness, and abuse has empowered many, giving them new hope in the face of obstacles.
