Announced by Mayor Bloomberg in 2009, Summer of Service is a hyper-local volunteer initiative that encourages young people to give back to their communities.

Participants at this site are working to clean up and clear out a community garden as part of a campaign to reduce rates of asthma in the area and promote health and wellbeing.

The following officials will take part: DYCD Commissioner Jeanne B. Mullgrav; Representatives from the Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Centers, Inc.; Representatives from the Neuberger Berman Foundation; local youth volunteers.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 168th Street and Prospect Avenue, Bronx, NY 10459.
