This summer, the Harlem SEALS have partnered with The Point Community Development Center, Play Pattern, LLC (Ronah Harris) and Art of Stepping (Jessica Marie Saul & Mauricio Pena) to pilot the program and approach.

While the organization itself, targets kids ages 6-18, this pilot program is offered to 1st and 2nd grade students from the South Bronx Community. The core components of the program are comprised of the following disciplines:

What differentiates Harlem SEALS, Inc. from your typical non-profit organization is that they have defined a different model and approach that through due process helps every child that goes through their core program earn funds that will be applied toward their college education.

Owner & Co-Founder Luis Arzu states:

“We no longer live in a world where countries exist and operate as isolated units.  Our kids will compete with the rest of the world in a global marketplace. They will be competing with the likes of China, India and Switzerland. For them to compete effectively, we have to prepare them…

…It is said that Google built a better internet; Facebook built a better digital social network; and Apple built a better phone. Harlem SEALS is out to build better people. That’s our ambition. That is what drives us. And we will do it by offering the best programs, adopting a culture of continuous improvement within every aspect of the organization and delivering to every child that would under normal circumstances would not have an opportunity. Their talents, gifts and abilities are no different from anyone else. They just need exposure. Yet and still, we will not be able to do it alone, it will take a team of the best of the best and as such we welcome the support of anyone in any capacity as we see this through. Every story has a beginning and as an organization, we have just begun.”

Harlem SEALS invites you to come and visit with them and take part in one of their workshops held every Saturday through August 13th at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at 940 Garrison Avenue, Bronx, NY 10474.

The workshops allow patrons to experience and see what they are doing as well as learn a bit more about the organization’s mission in its entirety.
