WHEDco, a Bronx-based non-profit organization, is hosting a free community workshop to help residents start their own businesses as NYC Green Cart fresh produce vendors on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at WHEDco’s Intervale Green Office, 1330 Intervale Avenue, Bronx.

An NYC Green Cart on the street.

The workshop is being offered in partnership with Karp Resources, the NYC Green Carts technical assistance and training provider, and is open to any NYC resident.

Workshop attendees will learn about the financial benefits of owning a NYC Green Cart business, how to apply for a mobile food vending permit, the start-up funds that are available to new Green Carts businesses, and the extensive, free technical assistance that WHEDco can offer to anyone interested in getting started. There is no experience required and there are no fees to attend the workshop.

“The Green Carts program offers a two-pronged approach to building a greater Bronx by increasing the availability of fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the community, while offering profitable business opportunities to individuals who may lack traditional education and training,” said Valerie Neng, WHEDco’s Director of Housing and Community Development. “WHEDco is thrilled to offer free assistance, from help with the application process to marketing and businesses development support, to community members who can benefit from this great program.”

Interested parties must call to reserve a seat at the workshop. For more information about the Green Carts Program or to RSVP, please call Courtney Williams (WHEDco) 718-839-1183 or Cassandra Flechsig (Karp Resources) at 212-337-4311.
