Fordham Basketball Hosts La Salle

The Fordham University men’s basketball squad continues the 2014 Atlantic 10 season as they host the La Salle University Explorers in the historic Rose Hill Gym for the Rams’ annual White Out Game on Saturday afternoon, March 1, at 5:00 p.m. in a game that will be televised live on the NBC Sports Network with Steve Schlanger (p-b-p) and former Fordham assistant coach Stan Van Gundy (color) announcing.

Fordham enters the game with a 9-17 overall record, 2-11 in the Atlantic 10, after a conference loss to VCU in the Rose Hill Gym on Thursday night. La Salle, an NCAA Sweet 16 team last season, enters the game with a 13-14 overall record, 5-8 in the Atlantic 10, after a 75-67 conference win over St. Bonaventure in Philadelphia on Wednesday night.

The Rams will be led into the game by the top scoring backcourt in the Atlantic 10, senior guard Branden Frazier, a preseason Third Team All-Atlantic 10 pick, and freshman guard Jon Severe, a product of Christ the King High School. Severe, a four-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week who tied the Fordham freshman scoring record with 35 points at Duquesne, is averaging an Atlantic 10-best 18.7 ppg, while Frazier is right behind him, averaging 17.2 ppg, fourth best in the conference, and he has two double-doubles year.

Over his three-year career, Frazier has netted 1,525 points, good for ninth on the Fordham all-time scoring list and he has 470 career assists, good for second on the career list.

Saturday afternoon’s contest will be the 47th meeting between Fordham and La Salle on the hardwood with the Explorers leading the all-time series, which started in the 1953-54 season, 33-13. La Salle won last year’s matchup, 89-53 in the Gola Arena on February 9 as Sam Mills netted 21 points and Ramon Galloway added 19 for the Explorers. The Rams won the 2011-12 meeting, 67-62, on February 25 in the Rose Hill Gym as Chris Gaston exploded for a career-high 35 points and 16 rebounds and Branden Frazier added eleven points.
