The New York City Internet grocer FreshDirect is moving to new headquarters in Bronx.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Governor Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday that FreshDirect is getting state and city incentives worth $100 million to stay in New York. New Jersey officials were seeking to woo the company to their side of the Hudson River.
Cuomo and Bloomberg said FreshDirect will invest $112.6 million of its own to build its new headquarters at Harlem River Yards in Bronx. They said the move will keep 2,000 jobs in New York City and add 1,000 new jobs.
FreshDirect was founded in 1999 and is now based in Long Island City, Queens.
Cuomo and Bloomberg said the move will allow FreshDirect to expand its service area to Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
