A former New York City Police Department housing officer was arrested and charged with second-degree murder Tuesday in connection with the death of his estranged wife, days after his wife’s body was discovered along a parkway in Westchester.

Edwin Coello was arrested at a relative’s house earlier in the afternoon, brought to the 45th Police in the Bronx and is expected to arraigned at criminal court Wednesday.

Coello, called police on March 11, 2011 to report that his 40-year-old wife, Tina Adovasio, was missing. He said she had stormed out of their Throggs Neck home after an argument.

Her body was found several days later, stuffed in a plastic bag in a wooded section off the Taconic State Parkway in Yorktown, NY. The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide, saying she received blunt force trauma to the head and chest and was choked to death.

Last week, Coello was labeled a person of interest in her death.

Investigators say they have video from a surveillance camera that caught Coello carrying a shovel and a large bag. They say they believe Adovasio’s body was inside.

Some of her family’s friends showed up to the precinct to yell and curse Coello.
