The St. Barnabas Hospital Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine collected more than 1,000 pairs of new socks in its “Every Sole Deserves a Sock” drive.
Socks are one of the most requested items in the winter for the less fortunate. They protect against frostbite and help against neuropathy, which is common with diabetes and can cause non-healing ulcers that can lead to amputation.
Members of the team posed in the photograph below with Hope Toscano, director of the Sammon Build Center, which for 30 years has provided temporary housing in the Bronx for single-female heads of households and their children.
