The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance today highlighted several sales tax-free outdoor activities you can enjoy this Labor Day weekend. Admission to the state’s parks and golf courses, for example, is exempt from sales tax.
Sales tax-free outdoor activities
New York State boasts 180 beautiful parks, from the shores of Long Island to the mighty Niagara Falls. Several of its parks, including Letchworth State Park and Watkins Glen State Park, are recognized as some of the best in the nation.
Along with its park system, New York State maintains 28 golf courses. Golfers can tee off on the same courses the pros do at the historic Black Course at Bethpage State Park on Long Island or play courses created by the game’s most innovative golf course architects such as the Robert Trent Jones-designed Green Lakes Golf Course in Central New York. There is no sales tax on admission fees throughout the year.
In addition to all golf courses, both private and public, admission to other sporting facilities or activities where you are the participant are exempt from sales tax. For example, bowling alleys and swimming pools.
History buffs can tour New York’s historic sites, or its historic homes and gardens. There is no sales tax on admission. The same goes for county fairs, featuring exhibits, rides, entertainment, and festivities. Searching for some serenity? Enjoy a New York State camping adventure.
“If you’re trying to soak up or celebrate the final days of summer, consider all the options New York State has to offer, many free of sales tax,” said Acting Commissioner Nonie Manion.
