The Legal Aid Society unveiled a “Cop Accountability Clinic” today for community members who were falsely arrested or were victims of police misconduct during the recent protests here in New York City. The Clinic will assist New Yorkers in filing complaints against individual officers with the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) and provide legal advice on filing a Notice of Claim for potential civil rights lawsuits. Roughly 500 lawyers from across the region have volunteered to staff the Clinic.

For anyone who was falsely arrested or who was the victim of police misconduct during the protests against police brutality in New York City, please contact The Legal Aid Society’s Cop Accountability Clinic at nycprotests@legal-aid.org or 212-298-3303.

“For New Yorkers who were falsely arrested, brutalized or who witnessed misconduct during the demonstrations, you have a right to file a complaint with the CCRB and a lawsuit against the City to establish that your rights were violated,” said Tina Luongo, Attorney-in-Charge of the Criminal Defense Practice at The Legal Aid Society. “This can often times be an intimidating and arcane process, and this clinic will ensure that New Yorkers can get connected to lawyers who are standing by and ready to assist them in holding cops accountable for their misconduct during the protests.”
