A Topping Out ceremony was held Monday, August 30 to commemorate placement of the final piece of structural steel in a new building being constructed at 1880 Boston Post Road in The Bronx for Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State (CP of NYS).
Idajean Windell, Chairman of the Board, and other representatives from CP of NYS were joined by Architect Robert Papazian, representatives from 1880 Boston Road LLC, Health Care Builders, Inc., and local dignitaries for the ceremony for the approximately $23million development project.
The new building will house a fully accessible Diagnostic & Treatment center. The health care facility will serve medically underserved areas and medically underserved populations in the surrounding community. The new building will also house a day program for 170 individuals with developmental disabilities living in the Bronx and a community center to serve the local community.
The proposed community center will have a coffee shop, thrift and craft shop and a small plant store stocked with products from the day center’s horticulture programs. This operation will also provide work opportunities for people with disabilities. Meeting rooms are also available for various sized groups and events, including a barrier-free stage for performances. Construction of the new building is expected to be completed for occupancy in the fall of 2011.
CP of NYS works with legislative and governmental agencies to ensure that public policy has a positive impact on the lives of children and adults with disabilities and their families. Through our Metropolitan Services, CP of NYS offers Residential, Clinic, Day Program and other services in the five Boroughs of New York City, providing support and services for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
