As Harvey’s death toll rises, Bronx residents are answering the bell to help and organizing a local relief effort.

Rev. Pastor Que English, of the Bronx Christian Fellowship Church, is asking volunteers for a minimum of one week of their time.

“We’re looking for electricians, those skilled in construction or people with a heart who want to volunteer because they care,” English says.

The call for help comes as 11 firefighters from New York City head to Houston to help with the relief effort.

“We’re here because we are experienced in adverse weather conditions and this is one of the things we’d like to do, pay it back to the community,” says Lt. George Ricco Diaz.

According to CNN, so far more than 10,000 people have been rescued, but more than a few dozen people have died.

The Bronx Christian Fellowship Church says it will fully pay for volunteers’ costs on the relief trip.
