Srecko Mavrek, a 7-year swimming/PE teacher (Grades 6-12) at Theodore Roosevelt Educational Campus, has been awarded a Classroom Teacher Grant from Kappa Delta Pi Educational Foundation headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.

This is an outstanding achievement, as 2011 was an incredibly competitive year for applicants. Kappa Delta Pi Classroom Teacher Grants are made possible through the generous donations of individuals, chapters, corporations, and foundations. In honor of Kappa Delta Pi’s Centennial, a generous donation is funding 100 Classroom Teacher Grants during 2011 – 100 for the 100th.

An internationally recognized expert in aquatics and physical education, Srecko Mavrek submitted a written proposal last fall describing the materials he wanted to provide to his students and how the funds would be allocated. A review committee evaluated the all educator proposals and selected the recipients at the beginning of this month. Mr. Mavrek will use his funds to buy the equipment for learning swimming including swim belts, extremity floats, ear plugs and nose clips.Kappa Delta Pi firmly believes that a teacher’s effectiveness has the greatest impact on students’ achievement and learning. As part of its efforts to provide members with tools to be more effective educators, Kappa Delta Pi offers Classroom Teacher Grants. These grants provide members who are practicing teachers with funds to support specific innovative and creative programs or activities at the classroom level. These projects are designed to engage students in the learning process through interactive activities, to purchase classroom supplies, or fund field trips for which school funds are not available.

The Kappa Delta Pi Foundation awards Classroom Teacher Grants every year to member teachers across the country. The Foundation also funds more than 70 local and national annual scholarships, literacy grants, and professional development courses. More information on the Foundation and Society can be found here.
