Sixth-graders from the Bronx Academy of Promise are getting recognition for designing an app that helps teach math.

The app designed by students from the charter school was one of 10 in the nation that won the Verizon Innovative App Challenge.

The contest was sponsored by the Technology Students Association, the Verizon Foundation and the MIT Media Lab.

On Monday, app developers from the media lab will visit the school and work with students to bring their app to the Google Play store.

The Bronx students’ Quest Math app idea was chosen out of nearly 500 submissions. It was designed as a Greek mythology-themed game to help students improve their math skills.

The MIT Media Lab is an interdisciplinary research laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
