On Monday, the National Weather Service declared the Bronx storm an EF-1 tornado, packing winds of 100 miles an hour.

Sometime between 2:50 and 3 p.m. Sunday, the weather service says, the twister spun through 0.6 miles of northern Riverdale near the Hudson, carving a path 100 yards wide and injuring seven people. Buildings damaged included the Hebrew Home for the Aged on Palisades Avenue.

The last tornado to touch down in the city was in 2007 in Sunset Park and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. A tornado last hit the Bronx in 1974.
