A man was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital early Sunday morning after police said he was shot in the upper left thigh.

The victim, who was identified Sunday afternoon as Bronx resident Eric Herrera, had been hanging out on the front porch of his girlfriend’s home when he went to retrieve something from his car around 2:00 a.m., police said.

As he was walking back toward the Rosette Street house, the victim told police he heard several gunshots and felt a stinging sensation near his groin area. The victim fell to the ground.

Police said his injuries are not life threatening.

Detectives, after interviewing several witnesses, said the victim had been at a party at the Church Street South Housing Complex earlier that morning. Witnesses told police there had been dancing at the party when a fight began — either over one of the victim’s friends mimicking the dance moves of a guest or making fun of where that person was from, police said.

According to witnesses, Herrera broke up the fight and left the party with his group of friends shortly afterward.

Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime are encouraged to call the Investigative Services Division at 2039466269 to speak with a detective.
