In the Williamsbridge neighborhoods of Bronx, residents are on edge after hearing about a brazen rape that took place in the very building the victim lived in.

Police say it was 5:45 a.m. on Sunday when a woman was walking inter her apartment building after work and a man followed her in. He then raped her in the building’s stairwell, police said.

Retired NYPD Detective Sergeant Wally Zeins, believes crime like this are the ones that hit communities the hardest, but it should also remind everyone to take a few extra steps when it comes to safety. Firstly, to always be aware of who is being let into apartment buildings. Secondly, it’s crucial to report sexual assaults as soon as possible.

NYPD are surely relying on the numerous surveillance cameras placed throughout the Bronx apartment building. The man they’re looking for is described as a black male, 25 to 35 years old, 5’7″ to 5’8″ with a heavy build, approximately 250 pounds.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit NYPDCrimestoppers.com.

All calls are strictly confidential.
