The 44-year-old Bronx Opera Company will be bringing their production of Auber’s Fra Diavolo to Hunter College’s Kaye playhouse in Manhattan tonight. After last weekend’s performances at Lehman college the show has travelled to the island of Manhattan.
Their engagment will only last for tonight and tomorrow at this FDR dedicated playhouse that is nearly as old as the Bronx Opera Company itself. This celebrated opera became a model for the works of Offenbach and Gilbert and Sullivan. The esteemed Bronx Opera Company is under the direction of the talented Ben Spierman, who is no stranger to music and performance as the son of Michael Spierman, conductor of the Orchestra of the Bronx.
The opera will be sung in english with players from the musically gifted and professional Orchestra of the Bronx.
