Children from all over the tri-state area have a chance to play alongside some of the world’s top tennis players at the EmblemHealth Bronx Open.

As the title sponsor of this world-class International Tennis Federation (ITF) women’s tournament, EmblemHealth assumes the tradition from Group Health Incorporated (GHI) an EmblemHealth company, which served this role for 14 years. The EmblemHealth Bronx Open is a $100,000 purse and will feature 32 women tennis professionals from around the world ranked in the top 100 who will continue on to the main draw at the US Open.

The EmblemHealth Bronx Open will also feature the National Junior Doubles Championship. This is the first year the United States Tennis Association (USTA) is offering this event which includes 64 teams of the best juniors in the United States.

All proceeds of the EmblemHealth Bronx Open will benefit the New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL), the largest tennis and educational-themed community organization in the United States providing free services to more than 120,000 underserved youth each year. NYJTL strives to provide children with a safe and nurturing environment, to offer services to help learn and thrive academically, and to provide them with the support and encouragement to reach their potential – on and off the tennis court.

General Admission is free with a $10.00 charge for finals on Saturday, August 29. NYJTL will provide a fun-filled week of free tennis lessons and special events. For more information, go to www.NYJTL.org or call 347-417-8129.

The week-long event brings professional tennis to the community in a number of exciting and fun ways. To start it off, we will honor those who do so much for our City with the FDNY vs NYPD Tennis Championship.

FDNY vs NYPD Tennis Championship. Sunday, August 23 10:00am – 1:00pm
In addition to being New York City’s bravest and finest on the streets of New York, the City’s fire and police departments also boast a number of great tennis players. For the fourth year, the FDNY and NYPD are pitting teams against one another in this mini-tennis tournament. There will also be special activities for the kids so come with your family and cheer on both teams!

EmblemHealth will award a trophy to the winning team and make a contribution to both the NYPD Widows and Orphans Fund and the UFA Scholarship Fund.
