Police say a 46-year-old Bronx man is dead after he jumped out of his boat and could not get back on it.

The accident happened late Friday night in the Long Island Sound near Throgs Neck.

Jesus (Hay-SOOS’) Ortega and a friend were fishing from a boat when they panicked because a power boat was headed their way.

Police say both men jumped into the water to avoid the power boat.

They say that when the boat passed without hitting them, Ortega’s 53-year-old friend climbed back aboard the fishing boat but Ortega did not.

Members of the NYPD harbor unit pulled Ortega out of the water and rushed him to a hospital, where he died.

His friend was uninjured.
