A 22-year-old Bronx man was charged with DWI and death by auto early this morning after he struck and killed a Jersey City man on Patterson Plank Road in Hoboken.
The driver, Luis E. Garcia, 22, of Bronx was arrested by Hoboken Police just blocks away from the scene of the accident, Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari said today.
According to authorities, Garcia was driving on Patterson Plank Road around 3:30 this morning. While driving, Garcia’s car jumped the curb on Patterson Plank Road near Congress Street when he hit the man, 24-year-old Ron Hill II, of Bergen Avenue in Jersey City, authorities said.
Garcia attempted to flee the accident, police said, but struck several cars a few blocks away and was arrested by Hoboken Police at the scene, authorities said.
Hill was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Garcia was found to have a blood alcohol content level of .13, over the legal limit of .08, authorities said.
Garcia is charged with DWI, DWI within 1,000 feet of a school zone, death by auto and leaving the scene of an accident, police said. Garcia is currently being held in Hudson County jail on $250,000 bail with a 10% option, authorities said.
