A 30-year-old Bronx man was arrested after he allegedly entered a residence on South Street Friday morning while the owner was at home, authorities said.
Detective Capt. Stanley Zon said the homeowner confronted the man, later identified as identified as Aley Beretay, and asked why he entered his home. Beretay said he was looking for “Mike Lewis,” then quickly left, Zon said.
A short time later, officers found a man fitting the description given by the homeowner, behind a shopping mall a few blocks away, Zon said. After the homeowner identified the man as the same person who had entered his home, police arrested him, established his identity and charged him with criminal attempted burglary, Zon said.
Beretay was held in the Bergen County Jail on $25,000 bail. Police asked anyone who may have seen him in the area to call detectives at 201-592-3510.
