Beginning in September, full-time artists, part-time artists, hobby artists, and technologists of all kinds will finally have a home at Bronx Kreate Hub. In a league of its own, Bronx Kreate Hub is a quality workspace and community incubator located at 15 Canal Place in South Bronx’s quickly transitioning Mott Haven neighborhood. South Bronx was named one of 2017’s “Places to Go” by the New York Times.

Neighbors are invited to see a sneak peek of the Bronx Kreate Hub space this weekend on Sunday, August 25 from 12 noon to 03:00 p.m.

South Bronx Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) Award

Bronx Kreate Hub was one of twelve transformational projects awarded strategic investments by Governor Andrew Cuomo as part of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) in July 2018. The strategic investments are meant to connect commercial and cultural nodes within the Bronx Civic Center to create a unified downtown that provides a high quality of life for residents and visitors.

Affordable, safe work space

Studio spaces are available at an array of affordable price points, starting at $175/month for shared studios and $450/month for private studios. Bronx Kreate Hub includes a publicly accessible ground-floor café and gallery. All community members have access to an array of amenities, including: Wi-Fi, central air conditioning, security cameras, mail and package reception, electric key system, gallery space, conference rooms, exhibitions and maker markets.

Community members will represent a diverse array of specialties, including:

  • Animators
  • Ceramicists
  • Drawers
  • Graffiti artists
  • Graphic designers
  • Painters
  • Sculptors
  • Filmographers
  • Photographers
  • Sound engineers
  • Crafters
  • Fashion designers
  • Jewelry designers
  • Writers

Organic Neighborhood Growth

Artist migration organically invigorates communities, and this is Kreate Hub’s goal in the South Bronx. In our experience, an undesirable neighborhood begins seeing artists appear and soon community begins; soon after a neighborhood is established and ultimately a cultural destination emerges.

Kreate Hub recognizes the best way to establish roots in the community is through our neighbors, and we will be hiring staff locally. Additionally, we’re partnering with an established local coffee shop to build our ground-floor café and gallery. The space will be open to the public, not only functioning as a vehicle to showcase our member’s work, but also as a way for local residents to experience the Kreate Hub community. Our gallery space will host local events.

Fostering Community

As the springboard for approximately 100 local, emerging artists and makers, Kreate Hub will have a direct and profound impact on the local South Bronx economy and community. Several local organizations have been identified to further drive connection, including:

  • Local art museums (Bronx Museum of the Arts);
  • Non-profit organizations (Bronx Council on the Arts & The POINT Community Development Corporation);
  • Communities (Mott Haven H.e.arts Festival);
  • Schools (Bronx Charter School for the Arts, Bronx Academy of Letters);
  • Government (Department of SCO Family Services to introduce the students to the arts).

Kreate Hub will also participate in mentorship programs benefiting local students. Resident mentors will share their expertise and serve as examples of successful working artists; students will gain practical knowledge and experience in their desired fields. It is our hope that these students will return to Kreate Hub as artists-in-residence.
