A manager and an employee at a Bronx Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant are being sued after they told a disabled Iraqi war veteran he had to leave because he had a dog with him. The vet, named Charles, tried to explain that his dog, named Valor, was a service animal.

Charles simply wanted some food to take his medication with, he later told reporters. Charles suffered shoulder and spinal injuries in Iraq and needs his dog to help balance and see him through panic attacks. Charles also worked in the rubble at ground zero for three months following the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The lawsuit seeks $1 million from  the manager, employee and franchise owner, claiming they violated the ADA and various state and local laws when they refused to allow Valor in the restaurant.

Charles has had trouble with fast food restaurants before. In 2011, he successfully sued a Manhattan McDonald’s restaurant after the manager cursed at him and Valor when ejecting them from the restaurant.
