The Bronx Jewish Community Council organized a Chanukah giveaway which saw hundreds of packages given out to elderly homebound people in advance of the Jewish holiday which starts next week.

The annual ‘Project HOPE — Hanukah Package Delivery’ event was held at the at the B’nai B’rith Senior Housing Center in Co-op City, where volunteers gathered to pick up their packages.

More than 450 packages — each containing potato pancake mix, eggs, canned goods and grape juice — were given out to the volunteers who then delivered it to Jewish seniors that are homebound.

“Many of our seniors just can’t get out to do this kind of shopping, or don’t have access to Jewish ethnic food,” Niti Minkove, director of volunteers, said. “This is a real treat for them to get this delivered to their homes,” she added.
