Bronx resident and patient in St. Mary’s Pediatric Day Healthcare ( PDHC) after-school and weekend program, 10-year old Kamya never lets her disability get in the way of her enjoying her childhood.

With the help of St. Mary’s renowned therapists and nurses, Kamya has learned to manage her condition and overcome the challenges associated with her disability. She is always eager to participate in all activities and has become a mentor to other patients, assisting them with their homework or during activities.

Kamya is one of the many children chosen as a Grand Marshal to help lead the Walk for St. Mary’s Kids and Family Fun Day on Sunday, May 22nd at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY because of her determination and confidence.

Kamya strives to accomplish her medical and rehabilitative goals and recently learned to wheel herself to dinner. With the supervision of her physical therapist she has also been able to use a walker for short distances. Kamya’s goal is to be able to use her walker through the entire day, and she is working hard to accomplish that.

The annual Walk for St. Mary’s kids, gather staff, patients, friends and family to help raise funds & awareness to continue providing care for patients like Kamya.
