Bronx Duo Charged With Larceny & ID Theft

A man and woman from New York were charged with larceny and identity theft after attempting to make a purchase at a Westport jewelry store Thursday.

Police say they responded to a Main Street jewelry store around 1:00 p.m. to the report of suspicious person.

Detectives discovered Njeri Bowen, 25, of Bronx, NY, attempting to purchase a Rolex watch with what seemed to be fake personal ID information.

When she provided a fake New Jersey license, police followed her to a waiting vehicle where Michael Simmons, 24, also of Bronx, NY, was waiting.

Bowen was later found to be in possession of another fraudulent license and credit card. Officers also recovered the Rolex that she had purchased.

Bowen and Simmons were charged larceny, identity theft, criminal impersonation, forgery, conspiracy to commit larceny, conspiracy to commit identity theft, conspiracy to commit criminal, impersonation, and conspiracy to commit forgery.

Bowen was additionally charged with interfering with an officer: non-assaultive, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and failure to appear on a previous similar charge.

She was held on $10,000 bond and will appear in court November 14, 2013.
