We are pleased to publish the Citizens Union’s Report on NYC Council Discretionary Funding. While the major findings of the report are echoed in the link below, we thought our readers might be particularly interested in the “who got what” for the Bronx Delegation in the City Council.

Below is a list for discretionary funding – capital and expense – for FY 2012. The ranking below is how they did in terms of the 51 members of the City Council.

Citizens Union also looked at funding in relation to socioeconomic status. Regarding Bronx, while Councilmember Maria del Carmen Arroyo has the 2nd lowest Median Income of council districts in NYC, and is near the top of the list in funding, Councilmember Foster’s district has the 2nd lower Median Income, and is near the bottom in funding.

Given the inequities in funding, Citizens Union provided a number of recommendations to make the discretionary funding process more equitable and objective, including using socioeconomic indicators as well as other objective measures to ensure that constituents in every council district are well served through the funding process.

The report can be accessed here and relevant charts can be view here.
