On Wednesday, the Bronx Chamber of Commerce hosted its Irish Heritage Luncheon where former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani served as the keynote speaker and was among the Irish Heritage Honorees.
Tom Butler, New York AREA director of development and member programs, was also honored.
Mayor Giuliani focused his remarks on New York’s energy needs, saying that energy is one of the most important issues in the state. He stressed that if large electricity generators were pulled offline, the state would face a serious risk of rolling brownouts, if not blackouts, and New Yorkers’ electricity rates would undoubtedly skyrocket.
“Over 50 percent of our energy comes from coal, 20 percent from nuclear, 20 percent from natural gas and less than 10 percent from wind and solar. When you go down the list, there are groups that oppose each form of energy and they want us to rely on the least reliable sources to meet our growing energy needs. This is ridiculous.” Mayor Giuliani said.
