The Bronx is celebrating its centennial this year.

The Bronx officially became a borough on January 1, 1914, though some houses still standing in the Bronx date back to the 18th century.

George Washington slept at the Van Cortlandt House, which was built in 1748, and American Revolution battles happened at the Valentine Varian House, which is now The Museum Of Bronx History.
