Seriel car thief Reynaldo Nazario was sentenced for up to seven years in prison Friday for stealing 26 cars in a two-and-a-half month span — from one end of Bronx to the other.
Nazario was ripping off cars and selling them for scrap — not taking them for joyrides, Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson said.
The 36-year-old Bronx man got paid $450 for each of the mostly mid-to-late nineties Hondas, Toyotas and Nissans he stole between August 9, 2012 and October 23, 2012, Johnson said.
Nazario would present paperwork in which he swore falsely that he legitimately owned the cars, the DA said.
When the NYPD Auto Crimes began investigating the wave of auto ripoffs, Nazario “became an immediate suspect in the thefts based on having had prior convictions for a similar pattern of car thefts,” Johnson said.
Nazario, of West 182nd Street, pleaded guilty last month to 26 felony counts of fourth-degree grand larceny.
