For 20 years, the Literary Freedom Project has been committed to creating spaces that center literature and explore cultural narratives that help build pride for Black and Latinx culture.

Your donation will help One Book One Bronx, the free community book club we started in 2018, expand to a third location and continue a separate Zoom book club (assuming the quarantine will end one day). It will also allow One Book One Bronx to increase the number of free books distributed and strengthen our ability to build a community of readers.

Your gift will grow the Mosaic Literary Conference and increase our ability to influence how educators can use our socially engaged lessons to elevate community dialogues related to social engagement, criminal justice, and women empowerment, among other subjects. And we are still dedicated to presenting literary interviews and essays in Mosaic Magazine–our literary arts print and online platform, which is supplemented by literary lesson plans for educators.

Donations Equal Freedom

Freedom to buy and distribute books, present programs, and support alternative spaces. Your donation is crucial to sustaining our independence. Please take a moment, and give what you can. Every and any amount makes a difference.

About The Book Club & One Book One Bronx

Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education invites neighbors to come together and (re)spark a love of reading. The book club normally meets in its 6th floor Gallery and hosts vibrant community-focused conversations that build a love of books and reading. The Casita Maria Book Club is presented in partnership with One Book One Bronx.

One Book One Bronx is a new style book club that inspires, encourages, and delights readers. Every week, we meet to discuss books that reflect the people of the Bronx. The book club seeks to build a culture of reading and is free to join. Please visit here for information on starting a book club at your community-based organization.

Discussions are free and open to the public. By registering you are giving the hosts permission to possibly use your image on our social media platforms. Book club discussions are held in English only at this time.

One Book One Bronx is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, donations, and Citizens Committee of New York City.
