On Thursday, November 14, 2019, the Bronx Museum of the Arts opens the doors to The Block Gallery for AIM Open House, a twice yearly event offering visitors the opportunity to tour the museum’s AIM artist incubator space and meet the current cohort of artists in the AIM alumni residency program.

Fall 2019 Artists in Residence
Onyedika Chuke, AIM Class of 2012
As an artist-in-residence, Onlyedika Chuke seeks to research and workshop a portraiture project in collaboration with the New York City Department of Corrections with the intention of developing a public monument/anti monument dedicated to the history of in incarceration in New York City.
Alicia Grullon, AIM Class of 2012
Grullon’s time in residence is deveoted to developing video treatments and an installation for two media projects on urban climate change and resiliency. These projects are a continuation of Grullon’s Surge, which considers the impact of climate change on the lives of urban youth.
Jessica Lagunas, AIM Class of 2006
During her residency, textile artist Jessica Lagunas will work on an ongoing series called Hair Weaves, a participatory project that uses hair donated from the public along with the artist’s own hair. By intertwining the hair of the participants and her own, Lagunas creates communal portraits through workshops and talks about identity and culture.
Jasmine Murrell, AIM Class of 2016
As part of her time in residence, interdisciplinary artist Murrell will collaborate with elders to explore ideas of power, beauty and the collective memory of the feminine black body. The series of works to be developed seeks to recoup the essential beauty and visibility of aging bodies and contributes to a larger narrative that transcends fear of death, impermanence, and change.
Shani Peters, AIM Class of 2010
While in residence artist Shani Peters will continue her project PSA for Collective Care which translates real-life strategies for surviving the perils of living in an unjust society into a beautiful, informative public art campaign. Drawing together individually collected self-care strategies, the project makes accessible a framework for collective-care, identified for and by the people who need it most.

Since 1981, The Bronx Museum of the Arts has supported New York’s artist community through the AIM Fellowship, the museum’s flagship artist development program – a four-month long series of intensive seminars and activities offering career management resources to guide emerging artists through the often opaque professional practices of the art world.
About The Block Gallery
The Block Gallery is the Bronx Museum’s artist incubator space dedicated to supporting the ongoing creative and professional advancement of AIM program artists. Named in memory of late Bronx Museum executive director, Holly Block, the multipurpose venue offers private workspaces, exhibition facilities, and meeting rooms to aid the development of forward-thinking artistic practices.
