As KHCC’s 2019-2020 NYC Civic Corps member, I have been on the ground assisting families in need of emergency food and coordinating food pantry volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

My name is Ceasar Tobar-Acosta. I am from the neighborhood, and it has been rewarding to know I am supporting my community.

But, now the pantry faces the loss of large food donations. Even as the city begins the next phase of reopening, every New Yorker will not be returning to work. We need to be here for families.

We do not want to abruptly close our doors.

Here is how you could help.

About Kingsbridge Heights Community Center

The Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) was founded in 1974 by a group of passionate community organizers. The group was led by three neighborhood women: Mary McLoughlin, Patricia Burns, and Janet Athanasidy.

Upon hearing in 1972 that the 50th Precinct was moving out of its turn-of-the-century building on Kingsbridge Terrace, the three jumped at the opportunity to realize their vision for a community center.

KHCC provides resources to empower Bronx residents from cradle to career to advance education and well-being for a vibrant community. We achieve this in an environment that fosters academic milestones, literacy, mental health support, nutrition, technology, and the arts.

The Legal Aid Society unveiled a “Cop Accountability Clinic” today for community members who were falsely arrested or were victims of police misconduct during the recent protests here in New York City. The Clinic will assist New Yorkers in filing complaints against individual officers with the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) and provide legal advice on filing a Notice of Claim for potential civil rights lawsuits. Roughly 500 lawyers from across the region have volunteered to staff the Clinic.

For anyone who was falsely arrested or who was the victim of police misconduct during the protests against police brutality in New York City, please contact The Legal Aid Society’s Cop Accountability Clinic at nycprotests@legal-aid.org or 212-298-3303.

“For New Yorkers who were falsely arrested, brutalized or who witnessed misconduct during the demonstrations, you have a right to file a complaint with the CCRB and a lawsuit against the City to establish that your rights were violated,” said Tina Luongo, Attorney-in-Charge of the Criminal Defense Practice at The Legal Aid Society. “This can often times be an intimidating and arcane process, and this clinic will ensure that New Yorkers can get…

Editorial

You should know, that through the years, I have received a lot of media attention for standing firm on my Christian faith – especially for my opposition to gay marriage and abortion – but in spite of what you might have read in a recent news article, my record, especially during my years serving as a member of the NYS Senate proves that I have been one of New York’s most effective and proficient Democratic legislators, but that record has been routinely ignored.

You should know that during my years of service as NYS Senator, having served 15 years, from 2002 – 2017, through my efforts many pieces of legislation were passed and signed into law.  I have an outstanding record of having worked hard with my colleagues to get my bills out of their respective committees and on to the Senate Floor for a vote. The evidence of my bills, a total of sixteen, can be seen proudly decorating the walls of my Office as well as other bills which I have been instrumental as co-sponsor.

It is important for you to know that on August 06, 2014 my bill number S.6732-A was signed into law. It was sponsored in the NYS State Assembly by Assemblyman Marcos Crespo. This bill protects New Yorkers from immigration assistance fraud. This was one of many victories for the Diaz Team.

As you know that when your political party is in the minority, as the Democrats were then, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to get any legislation passed. However, in my fifteen years as a New York State Senator, being in the minority additionally with my conservative values, Christian faith and traditional philosophies, I managed to introduce many pieces of legislations. I repeat, sixteen of my bills were signed into law, making me one of the most, if not THE most, effective Democratic Senator having served in the New York State Senate.

In 2005, I introduced bill number S.2234-A, which was signed into law and became Chapter 526. This law increases state penalties for dog attacks…

2020 has been a watershed year in many ways. A reeling global economy, massive and unprecedented unemployment, and extreme volatility have characterized the financial scene. For millions of Americans, it has been an annus horribilis – a year that we would rather forget. But alas, the events which shaped the year will have far-reaching implications for time immemorial. From a financial perspective, the soft underbelly of American economic enterprise has been exposed. What we once all believed to be an indomitable economy has been revealed to be nothing more than a flimsy house of cards.

At a time where it appears we are powerless over our fate, we must remember that we have a part to play in shaping the outcomes of the moment, even when Lady Luck is completely in charge of the outcomes in life. To draw parallels to this conundrum, one might consider online craps @MansionCasino as a case in point. On the surface, the connections are outrageously spurious at best. A player virtually accepts a pair of dice, rolls them, and hopes for a winning outcome. If we extrapolate to the economic bourses of the world, no amount of analysis can guarantee a profitable outcome. It is an unknown quantity that we are dealing with.

In much the same way, the economy is beset with enormous challenges, many of which are completely unrelated to the underlying fundamentals of an individual stock, index, commodity, or currency. Yet, we engage in the hopes of a positive outcome. We know that the house always wins in the end, but our focus is short-term gain, not long-term returns. Wall Street remains, and the powerbrokers who head…
