Stamford police reported that a 7-year-old boy from Bronx, NY, drowned in the pool at the Hilton Hotel at 240 Fairfield Ave. on Thursday night.
Capt. Richard Conklin of the Stamford Police Department said Jamiire Wilson, born April 7, 2002, was with his family visiting friends in the area in what Conklin described as a family Christmas tradition.
Police responded to a 911 call at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, and began administering cardio-pulmonary respiration to the boy. Emergency Medical Service and Fire Department personnel relieved police officers in their life-saving attempts.
Jamiire Wilson was transported to Stamford Hospital, where those efforts continued, but he was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m.
Conklin said Jamiire Wilson, who lived at 4519 Matilda Ave. in the New York City borough, was in the pool area with a brother and cousin “in the 13- to 14-year-old age range” and that his mother was nearby. Police are not sure how long the boy was in the pool. They said there were no lifeguards but that the hotel did have signs posted cautioning swimmers.
The investigation continues into the incident, and police officials planned to meet at length with the family on Friday.
