Sahar Victoria Vitale Steals Thunder In CYO Cross Country Championship Meet

The Staten CYO Cross Country Championship meet provided some exciting races and results from the representatives of the 15 teams, but Sahar Victoria Vitale of St. Charles stole the show.

Vitale of St. Charles, competing in a division higher than one she has competed in the previous four meets, established a new mark in the girls’ 7th-8th grade 1.5-mile race with a time of 9.34.6.

In all she won five crowns this fall season and will be favored to win again in Saturday’s Archdiocese of New York championship at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

CYO teams from Staten Island, Manhattan, Bronx, Westchester, Rockland, Ulster, Dutchess, Orange and Sullivan Counties will be on the trails.

BOYS

7-8 GRADE 1.5 MILE:  1. Michael Rodriguez-King (Sacred Heart) 8:36.8,  2. Michael Calafiore (St. Charles), 3. Fernando Diaz (Sacred Heart), 4. Tynan Murphy (Sacred Heart), 5. Daniel Hyland  (Our Lady of Good Counsel)

TEAM CHAMP: Sacred Heart, which also included Thomas Keane, Robert Offenberg, Liam Field, and Sean Franzreb.

5-6 GRADE 1 MILE: 1. James Adamo (St. Charles) 5:56.9, 2. Isaac Jarba (St. Peter-St, Paul), 3. Brian McDowell (Our Lady Star of the Sea), 4. Damian Aviles (Blessed Sacrament), 5. William Parson (St. Charles)

TEAM CHAMP: St. Charles, which also included Patrick Parson, and Nicholas Signorastri.

3-4 GRADE 1/2 MILE: 1. Dennis Carson (Sacred Heart), 2. Adam Vitale (St. Charles), 3. Joseph Calabrese (St. Charles), 4. James Rockfeller (Blessed Sacrament), 5. Sean Gannon (Blessed Sacrament).

TEAM CHAMP: St. Charles, which also included Charles Costanzo, Sean Hunt, Michael Gonzalez, Peter Flynn, Nicholas Casale and Luigi Signorastri.

1-2 GRADE 1/4 MILE: 1. Garrett Linder (Blessed Sacrament), 2. Louis Calvo (Blessed Sacrament), 3. Nathan Wildrick (St. Clare’s), 4. Anthony Siddiolo (St. Joseph-St. Thomas St. John Neumann), 5. Michael Curich (St. Joseph-St. Thomas St. John Neumann)

TEAM CHAMP:  Blessed Sacrament, which also included Kenzo Fields, Anthony Viani and Theo Cockrell.

7-8 GRADE 1.5 MILE: 1. Sahar Victoria Vitale (St. Charles) 9.34.6, 2. Chelsea Rodriguez (Sacred Heart), 3. Kristen Aguilera (Blessed Sacrament), 4. Lola Dinneen (St. Joseph-St. Thomas St. John Neumann), 5. Diana Cavalieri (OLGC).

TEAM CHAMP: Blessed Sacrament, which also included Meghan Leonard, Brooke Manning, Jessica Mastrandrea and Miah Mascarinas.

5-6 GRADE 1 MILE: 1. Sachi Robinson (Sacred Heart) 6:28.4, 2. Sofia Selmi (St. Teresa), 3. Jennifer Greenfield (OLHC), 4. Tara Murphy (Sacred Heart), 5. Jordan Moore (NDA), 6. Abigail Thompson (NDA).

TEAM CHAMP: Sacred Heart, which also included Jessica Diaz, Abigail Meurer and Morgan Murphy.

3-4 GRADE 1/2 MILE: 1. Katelyn Kliesch (Blessed Sacrament) 2:40.3, 2. Annalisa Sabatino (St. Charles), 3. Ellana Falcone (St. Joseph-St. Thomas St. John Neumann), 4. Emma Brogan (Blessed Sacrament), 5. Selmi Fiona (St. Teresa).

TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: Blessed Sacrament, which also included Lily Woods, Serra Lea and Madison Laffey.

1-2 GRADE 1/4 MILE: 1. Malina Rodriguez-King (Sacred Heart) 2:35.1, 2. Abigail Robisky (St. Charles), 3. Eva Maira (St. Charles), 4. Mackenzie Bennett (St. Joseph-St. Thomas St. John Neumann), 5.  Julia Maresca (OLSS).

TEAM CHAMP: St. Charles, which also included Olivia Bruno-Dunn, Julia Vitale and Gia McCombs.

K/PK 1/8 MILE: 1. Madelyn Geissler (Blessed Sacrament) 1:19.0, 2. Kaitlyn Lombardo (SJSTSJN), 3. Ella Lacicero (St. Clare’s), 4. Juliet Goffredo (St. Clare’s), 5. Giuliana Rosiello (OLGC).

EXTRA MILEAGE: Katelyn Kleisch has won four cumulative individual championships, while Lola Dinneen, James Adamo, Sahar Victoria Vitale and Dennis Corson have copped two. 

Since the league was founded in 1993, Charles Costanzo is now fourth in the all-time cumulative times for a 1-2 grade boys. Dennis Corson and Adam Vitale are second and third in the 3/4 grade boys. James Adamo is third for the 5/6 grade boys. Michael Califore is 10th among the 7/8th grade boys. 

Katelyn Kleisch and Annalisa Sabatino are one and two in the 3/4 grade girls division. Sahara Victoria Vitale is now first among the 5/6 grade girls. In the 7/8th grade girls, Chelsea Henriquez is now second, Lola Dinneen is third, Diana Cavalieri (OLGC) is sixth (32:02.3), Meghan Leonard (Blessed Sacrament) is seventh and Madison Torretta (St. Clare’s) is ninth.
