A duo of robbers have run a scam on Bronx oldsters recently, posing as “inspectors” for the “Water Dept.” to check either the “water level” or “quality.” Once inside, they scoop up jewelry and other goodies and run like hell, cops say.

Their first such score was on December 19; the fifth, and most recent, was on February 7. The robbers are described as Latino males, each about 5-foot-10 and 35 to 40 years old.

Their pattern seems to be to strike every couple of weeks and rarely in the same precinct:

“The men struck around 3 p.m. on December 19, 2010, on Willow Lane. They struck again on January 3, 2011, on Neill Avenue, around 4:30 p.m. They also struck around 1 p.m. on January 18 on Irwin Ave. They scammed someone on February 3 on Ohm Avenue around 2:20 p.m. They last struck on February 7 around 1:10 p.m. on Baychester Avenue.”

Tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit tips at nypdcrimestoppers.com or text info to 274637 (CRIMES), entering TIP577.
