The WBLS Circle of Sisters will be hosting a two day expo designed to unite and celebrate women of colour. The event will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, 655 West 34th Street between 11th and 12th Avenues in Manhattan, on Saturday, October 10th from 10am to 10pm and Sunday, October 11th from 11am to 8pm.

Celebrating Women Of Colour

The event is an opportunity for families and friends to spend time together, view exciting exhibits, listen to stimulating seminars, and enjoy music and dance provided by WBLS and WLIB.

Over the course of two days, many celebrities from different music genres are expected to join the celebration. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy BBD (Bell Biv Devoe), Salt N’ Pepa, J. Holiday, Big Daddy Kane and Marley Marl on Saturday and take part in Pastor Hezekiah Walker’s live church service on Sunday morning.

Also joining the expo will be the New York Blood Center (NYBC) promoting the “gift of life” through blood donation. NYBC, one of the nation’s largest community based blood centers will be on site with their mobile blood donation coach on both days. Participants can roll up their sleeves and donate blood and learn about the Precise Match Program which ensures that everyone in our diverse community has access to the most precisely matched blood products. More blood donations are needed to maintain the proper inventory for patients in our culturally diverse city. This is an opportunity to truly make a difference.

To donate blood, please call toll free at 1-800-933-2566 or visit here.

Any company, community organization, place of worship, or individual may host a blood drive. NYBC also offers special community service scholarships for students who organize community blood drives during the summer. Blood donors receive free mini-medical exams on site including information about their temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure and hemoglobin level.  Eligible donors include those people at least age 16 (with parental permission or consent), who weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, are in good health and meet all Food & Drug Administration and NY or NJ State Department of Health donor criteria. People over 75 may donate with a doctor’s note.
