Concerned that thousands of men are unable to secure employment because they lack the initial, yet vital, step of looking presentable for a job interview, The Osborne Association and Men’s Wearhouse are partnering to help men seeking employment get a boost of self-confidence during the third annual National Suit Drive, the country’s largest collection of gently used business attire.

National Suit Drive 2010, Bronx

On September 22 at 10a.m., local elected officials – including Assemblymembers Marcos Crespo and Peter Rivera – will join The Osborne Association at a public ceremony at the Men’s Wearhouse Co-Op City location (2021 Bartow Avenue in the Bronx) in support of this year’s charity drive. Donations made during the event will be given to participants in Osborne’s programs who are re-entering the work force. Obtaining professional attire is a vital first step for many of our participants in achieving economic independence. Without the right apparel, our clients are poorly equipped to compete with more experienced job seekers in today’s tight job market.

This is Osborne’s third time joining Men’s Wearhouse to distribute the collected items. Donations include men’s and women’s suits, shirts, jackets, ties, belts, and shoes. Residents of the Bronx and surrounding New York City area may donate their gently used and cleaned items at the Co-Op City location.

“We are very excited to work with Men’s Wearhouse on the National Suit Drive campaign,” said Jessica Rooks, Director of Workforce Development for The Osborne Association. “Proper professional attire really can help transform the lives of our participants and allow them to walk into an interview with confidence. Jobs are an essential part of a successful re-entry process for people who have been incarcerated. With these donations, our participants will be one step closer to achieving economic independence for themselves and their families.”

“With nearly one out of ten working-age men unemployed in this country, the economic downturn has disproportionately hurt the male workforce,” said George Zimmer, Men’s Wearhouse founder and CEO. “By collecting and donating professional clothing, Men’s Wearhouse aims to help men ‘suit up’ for job interviews and offset the ‘mancession.’”

Nationally, Men’s Wearhouse hopes to collect more than 100,000 articles of clothing to benefit charities like The Osborne Association. Last year, Osborne was able to help dozens of men in the New York City area get suited up for their next job interview, secure jobs, and get back on their feet.
For every suit the company collects, it will donate one dress shirt to the cause. In addition to providing a tax receipt, Men’s Wearhouse is thanking donors for their generosity with a 25 percent off discount on their next purchase at Men’s Wearhouse.*
